Graveyard of the Martyrs

... this is the entrance to the graveyard where lies

soldiers who fought and died during the Chinese war

against Japanese. most of them are high-ranking officials.

not surprising knowing the fact that i learned from a local

that most of their military men comes from Linyi.

the most interesting thing about this graveyard

is finding a grave of a foreigner.

here lies as well a grave of a German journalist

who did not just die during the course

of the war but he ended up fighting alongsides

with Chinese.

as Chinese respect for his heroism,

he was put among their local heroes.

... the tower at the center of the graveyard.

on the walls are tablets where history of this

place is told. and writings of some significant

people including Mao Zhedong himself who came

and paid tribute to the heroes of the war lying

on this graveyard.

... some kinda admin temple inside the

compound where the sun hides from behind.
