winter break is when the day ends at 1am and begins at 2pm. it's the longest break when you go a lot of time doing things but with the cold temperature outside, you'd rather curl up in bed and be warm. sometimes i wish i could be like a bear who hibernates the whole winter and wakes up when the early sun rises in spring. what a wonderful morning it would be. i don't like winter to be honest. well except snow, that's one thing i like seeing in wintertime.
i used to have many activities before even in winter. i regularly had winter camps. regular get-together with friends, barhopping and slumber parties. you know when you are younger and alone you never lost energy to ramble. but as life changes, routines do as well.
my bf and i are busy lately of photography. people always try to find a worthwhile way of spending a long holiday. aside from travelling and strolling, picture-taking makes a good sense. i also found a good chance updating my blog.
Linyi. it's young in its 20th year as a city. expectedly, it is not as developed as other known cities in China. it is developing fast however. looking at the city upon arrival i kinda got desperate. "there is no life in here", i uttered to myself. seeing the university where i am going to work, i exhaled "whoah! not bad at all". the university is huge, facilities are all new, students are very nice indeed, my classes are doing very well. on weekends we take time to take a look around. find shopping places and places where there is a touch of its local history. shopping is not impressive i must admit. it's pretty typical Chinese brands made for local shoppers. there is a little of foreign stuff. there is one pizza hut, two kfc's and one mcdonald's in the whole city. well, what do you expect? you are in China! living like this for few months, it made me see the difference. i've always lived in bigger cities like Guangzhou(Huadu in particular) and Qingdao. they're great and convenient of course but here see a different China as to say. here, i see everyday how they function, how they live their lives, how they behave towards certain things, how they treat each other and us (foreign guests). in here i've seen China the way i've never seen before. i mingled with the people, i live with them. and i feel much how is it to be in the real China. yes, this is the real China which i thought is the "different one". it is what it is in its purest state. the others, yes it's China too in its developed stage. it doesn't make a big impression anymore for it is already alike to other countries. in most cases, people from different parts of the world come to visit and stay for sometime to experience the China in its most special time (as Shamil would always say). yes it is a special time when China unfolds its history and going through a process of its civilization. with every class i make, i feel that i'm taking part in it, somehow. though i'm not sure how much my teachings are a part of my students lives but being here alone make me feel its most rapid and vibrant changes.
well, i've gone so far already, i've noticed. all i want is to feature Linyi as a winter-break documentary. more about Linyi will be on the upcoming posts.
