i am watching this Japanese TV programme which made me pause for a moment and pay a little bit more of attention to today's topic. it is about someone who got present from somebody which reactions offended the giver. topic is gift-wrapping, a touch of Japanese culture.
anyone of us who give gifts always try to put a little or more effort to make them attractive or at least presentable by wrapping them with designed papers or designing the container itself. this way, we receive a more satisfying appreciation from the receiver.
Japanese more put more than that. they say, they put lots of thought and pour out their feeling into it. for them wrapping is a special part of the gift which can be kept as a symbol of friendship. sort of sentimental sense.
Usually when we open these beautifully wrapped gifts, we got pretty much excited to see what is inside the we just tear the wrappings harshly. the giver doesn't usually mind cause what they see is our excitement. some believe that wrappers are to be torn so more will come. in the Phils. we try not to destroy the wrappers simply because we like recycling them (: but for Japanese, it is very offensive to unwrap gifts without proper care.
these topic gave me an association about humans. we are all wrapped with different personalities. and each of us prefers a delicate way of unwrapping ourselves to others. there are people whom we thought are nosy about other peoples lives. there are some who are too arrogant to think that they have rights over others. we normally dont like them. we feel that we are unwrapped without any thought of how we feel. no matter who we are, we always keep an upfront personality which projects about how we want others to unwrap us or in human way, treat us. everybody expects a little care or at least respect.
bottomline is; we always should put an extra care in dealing with others especially to new acquiantances and not to take the old ones for granted.
