Luneta is a national park which was built as tribute to our national hero Jose P. Rizal.
Carabao - it's considered as the national animal seen on every rice field working as farmers best helpers.
the guard to Jose Rizal's monument. this was taken from the back of the monument, i enjoyed watching him march to and fro. later i caught him drinking from "that coleman" at the bottom of the monument. we figured out that he was just waiting for us to stop watching him so he can drink hehe.
Sorbetes - or known as "dirty ice-cream". i doubt if it's literally dirty but elders came up with that name so kids would stop asking them to buy them one. it was long time ago since i haven't eaten one. and this time it was just for fun. i was waiting with the same excitement i had when i was a kid. i left Philippines when you still can buy few scoops for 1 to 5 pesos but now it was 5 scoops for 15Php.
Jeepney- the major mode of transport around the cities. used for short distance trip. one of the Philippines unique symbols. i have ridden jeepney whole my life when i was in the Phils. still. i kinda missed it. it is more fun to take one if you are in the province, fresh is much cleaner and fresher. in the province, riding at the top load is possible. i've tried once with friends when we went to a countryside. it was freaking fun. we grabbed some grapefruits and mangoes along the way from the trees along the road hehe.
reading the scripts about the place and history
Lapu-lapu is one of the first considered heroes. the brave one who fought Spaniards from taking the land.
... i was not a big fan of Luneta Park when i was living in the Phils but when you are away from home, you realize that there are many things you take for granted when they are just around. but when they are gone and far, you miss them and find them more worthy. summer of 2008 when i went to visit my country, i took time to visit the places which i didn't use to. i was happy to be there. i was proud showing my bf history of the Philippines.
Great pics .. as usual. And interesting commentary, too. :-)
