a walk to the village

it was lunch time when we left the lake. proceeded to the village of Tang Tou where Crystal (my student) lives. it's around 30 minutes from the lake. we dropped by at a restaurant along the road which is owned by Crystal's uncle. it was very nice of them to serve us food.

it's a heater using charcoal. if you feel cold, you come closer and warm yourself up.

at the village, we were welcomed by people of all ages. elderly and kids were happy to interact with us. this man was Crystal's father's teacher. he's got the most beautiful calligraphy in the village. the most respected one.

Crystal, Cindy and Shamil at the village's entrance.

i like the backdrop. faded by time, naturally beautiful. many times people go to studios, paint a wall, hang up a designed cloth or sometimes bring things from countrysides to make backdrops look real. i got this one not artificial, authentic. it's one thing that surprises me about photographers. the picture doesn't need to find a beautiful place to make a good one. it is their eyes that finds this beauty in every place and situation.

ta-daaa. that was the backdrop. simply the wall of some one's house. (:

the gate. every Chinese house has a gate like this. they're pretty old. the red posts were new year greetings.

i found myself playmates. these kids stayed with us the whole time we were rambling the village. they were helpful to me. they drew away dogs on the way 'cause they saw that i'm afraid of them. they were naughty but they were fun.

this sweet little girl got scared of us haha. it was her first time to see group of "different" people.

but we had a toy. this kiddo is tough. he had fun with us. he probably didn't understand what was happening but he was enjoying himself.

"David and Goliath" this looks stupid but really funny. i like the way the kid was looking at Shamil. it looks like he's got a big question in his mind. "why are you bigger"? "why, why, why do you look like that"? later he was fooling around already.

the villagers. they were all out. from every corner they were watching, not too many of them though. the village probably has a population of less than 500. it's pretty small. and it was the first time they saw foreigners. we were the first ones! and Crystal was proud to bring us the there. she's a nice kid. she really made all the effort to give us a wonderful trip. the whole family was concerned about this trip. her father arranged a car to pick us up from the city. the car's driver was a relative too. the uncle and aunt served us lunch and offered dinner just that we will be late for home so we kindly refused. her father was at work but left for a minute and came to open the house for us. we were introduces to every grandfathers and grandmothers. seemed to me that the whole village is a relative. (: the car took us back home at 5pm. it was one of my best trips.

nota bene: more of these pictures in my facebook account albums.
