no, it's not a firework. it's a volcano erupting.
it's snowing here while the volcano the most active volcano in Bicol (Philippines) is erupting. families were forced to evacuate for their safety.
i feel sorry for them. it's almost Christmas and i know how much each family try to prepare for this. i know how each child bear this excitement in their hearts anticipating for the "aaguinaldo" (presents) they will receive. i was a kid myself so i can tell that no matter how small or big the present is...it something i always wait for on Christmas day. Christmas is so much fun, especially when you are a kid. now, i can imagine how those kids at the evacuation centers feel deprived of caroling around the neighborhood. i can imagine how each family prepared the house with decorations to have a Christmas spirit. i wish that situation will get better for them.
This volcano is actually is one of the many beautiful spots in the Philippines. it is also historical. i once brought a picture of it in the class and i was telling my students the story of it. it exploded long time ago that the town around it was buried. by now what you can see from the place is the bell tower as you can see in the picture. i've seen it once with fire on its top. i've felt the ask coming from it and i've visited the place many times. it' a wonderful scenery when erupting or not. however, as beautiful as destructive it is.
Apart from being an amateur photographer I was a professional geologist 22 years ago, and volcanoes always seemed to me astounding, fascinating. They create and destroy life, but Nature is like that. Christmas is very special, but Nature doesn´t forgive any important event. Happy Christmas!!!!
ReplyDeletehow true. right now i am so torn between feeling excited that if i would be there right now, i'll be able to hear it rumble and see from afar how the the lava comes out and runs down. but for other hand, i am so scared of the destruction it could cause. and at the same time i feel sad for people who will not be able to spend their Christmas in their homes.
