Kazan Churches

An old traditonal, strict Orthodox church which was built in the early 19th century. it was closed during Soviet era and then restored its community services after the changes took place.

Monastery of Our Lady of Kazan. Inside is the famous icon of "Mother and Child" which was taken away during the revolution of 1917. The icon was kept in Rome and later was kindly given by the late Pope John Paul II back to its historic home, Kazan.

That's the one which has replica in Moscow at the Red Square, the one which name is Kazan Cathedral.

I've been inside and saw this "Icon" which traveled during the war to its salvation. It was really really old but still full of aesthetic details, precious stones and it feels like it is enveloped with mysteries. It's a classic antique not only physically but the "Icon" itself. It's the "Mother of Perpetual Help" which I used to attend novenas to when I was still in the Phils and now I've seen the original "Icon". Unfortunately it's not allowed to make pictures inside so I just bought some souvenirs.

At the middle of Baumana street, tha main street in Kazan is another old Orthodox church which has the same story as the others.

"Staroobryadcheskaya" - Russian Orthodox Oldritualist Church. it suffered the so-called "time of stagnation" during Soviet era when it was closed for its community services and used as a depot. later when changes happened, it was restored and until now, some renovation is in progress.

A Catholic Church. a newly built one not so long time ago as a replacement for the old one which cannot be used anymore because it has been used as a manufacturing building for something during Soviet times.

One of the oldest Orthodox church. more than 300 years old. it was built for the occasion of Peter the Great's visit to Kazan. the church served as the place for him to practice his Christian rights. the church was not closed nor destroyed during Soviet era. as it was standing before is the same as it stands now. interior is amazing, antique gold plated icon frames and steel flooring.

Blagoveshenskii Cathedral. Annunciation Cathedral of Kazan Kremlin was the first Orthodox church within the walls of the Kazan Kremlin. Initially, a wooden church was quickly built under direction of Tsar Ivan IV in 1552, before it was replaced by a stone cathedral. The cathedral became the center of religious and educational life and missionary efforts in the province of Kazan. This Cathedral is located inside the Kremlin.

Kazan is a multi-Religious city. There are many churches and mosques around. I was not able to visit mosques except the Kul Sharrif. I hope next time to visit other mosques and the rest of the churches which I haven't been to yet.
